Taking time away from the problem often leads to smarter decisions.
It makes sense - you've put more thought into it, and your subconscious has been knocking it around for a while already.
This is captured pretty well by Hammock-driven development, but also related is spaced-repetition.
After capturing the best-idea-ever in your journal, it can help to wait to implement it. Often I come back to weeks or months of journals only to find the same idea expressed a few different ways, each time with no thought or context of the other.
Waiting to implement leads to a better implementation, and less wasted time and effort.
I hope to use spaced-repetition to further improve this process. Flashcards that show me designs in-progress and ask for quick reactions, as a todo makes its journey from idea to shipped.
