startup issues and crashes
linux
Not a smooth update this time, but I think that's on me. I blame my own process at this point - I feel like an arch pretender who doesn't really know what's going on. The more time i spend in it, the more I learn I don't know. Here's my notes anyway!
Apparently the linux60 kernel I'm on is already old, and my usual update process was blocked by nvidia-525 vs nvidia-530 updates. Reading the manjaro update post, it seemed like I should try to move to linux61 or linux62 - doing that via mhwd was also blocked by the same nvidia-525/530 errors...
Eventually I remember that
pamac upgrade
was a thing, so just went for it, and it
updated everything, no problem. What's the difference? I'm
not sure.
I also updated my
/etc/default/grub
file (but later reverted the changes). I
thought the cryptodisk bit applied to me - it does, but not
in a grub context(?).
rebooting, unlocking the cryptodisk, and choosing a
kernel all worked fine. But then, the issue: the
Starting systemd-udevd with
5.29.blah-manjaro
(whatever
version) hung forever.
I was able to jump to a
tty with
ctrl-alt-f*
, and
couldn't find any errors or anything. Eventually I opted to
install
linux62-nvidia
,
and also
nvidia-settings
(tho I'm not sure if this one was
necessary).
After that, rebooting was fine.
